Concrete Cubic Feet Calculator for Driveways
Calculate the cubic feet of concrete needed for driveways, patios, sidewalks, and slabs. Concrete sells by the cubic yard (27 ft³).
Formula
Volume (ft³) = Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Thickness (ft)
Convert thickness from inches to feet by dividing by 12.
Standard Concrete Thicknesses
| Project | Minimum Thickness | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Sidewalk | 3.5” | 4” |
| Patio | 3.5” | 4” |
| Driveway (cars) | 4” | 5”–6” |
| Driveway (trucks) | 5” | 6”–8” |
| Garage floor | 4” | 6” |
| Footing | 8” | 12” |
Driveway Example
A driveway measures 40 ft long × 12 ft wide × 5 inches thick.
- Length = 40 ft
- Width = 12 ft
- Thickness = 5 ÷ 12 = 0.417 ft
- Volume = 40 × 12 × 0.417 = 200 ft³
- Convert: 200 ÷ 27 = 7.41 cubic yards
Concrete Per Bag
A standard 80-lb bag of concrete mix yields about 0.6 ft³ when mixed. For 200 ft³, you need 200 ÷ 0.6 = 334 bags. At that volume, order a ready-mix truck instead.
Cost Estimate
Ready-mix concrete costs $125–$175 per cubic yard delivered. A 7.41 cubic yard driveway costs approximately $926–$1,297 for material only.
Add 10% extra for waste, spillage, and uneven surfaces. Round up to 8.2 cubic yards for the order.
